London Bike Show – what will be there for youth cycling?

12 February 2014

It’s the show season, and there seem to be bike shows almost every week. Until recently there usually haven’t been many interesting youth racing specific products or suppliers at bike shows. Instead, the shows focus on higher value adult bikes and equipment – that’s where the sales volume and the higher profit margins are.

Now, though, with the explosion of children’s cycling and the resulting increased spend on youth products, the shows are becoming more relevant.

So we’ve taken a look at the exhibitors list at the London Bike Show (13th to 16th February at ExCeL in the Docklands) and picked out a few stands that could be interesting for youth cycling. Children’s tickets for the show are free of charge.

Islabikes – Stand LB930

A rare opportunity to try the whole Islabikes range away from its Ludlow home.

HOY Bikes – Stand LB1445

See the two junior, 650c wheel models from HOY Bikes. Watch our “First Look” videos of the bikes before you go: Cammo road bike video and Meadowbank track bike video.

Worx Bikes – Stand LB1316

See the excellent range of Juniorworx road/cyclocross bikes. Check out our detailed review of their JA700.

Stevens Bikes – Stand LB840

German brand Stevens makes some well-specced junior MTBs – let’s hope they bring them to the show.

Bike Swanky – Stand LB1316

The Kona and Frog Bikes sold by Bike Swanky are good but they’re not the reason that this supplier is interesting. Instead, it’s the unusual “Kids Plan” lease buying option which includes insurance and servicing and the ability to swap to a larger bike as a child grows.

ProVision – Stand LB1310

ProVision produces children’s sizes of most of the clothing in its range.

Lee Valley VeloPark – Stand LB1350

The brand new facilities at the site of the London 2012 Olympics.

Herne Hill Velodrome – Stand LB303

Herne Hill is now a huge resource and centre of coaching for youth cycling.

Ginger & French – Stand LB442

Cycling design prints, wallpaper, and stickers for the bedrooms of bike mad kids.
